Speech to Print Word Mapping
This page shows how to analyse speech-to-print correspondences, identifying which graphemes map to English speech sounds in British, Australian or American English.
Phonemies® (Speech Sound Monsters®) are phonetic symbols for orthographic learners.
You cannot explicitly teach every speech-to-print correspondence. When you see just how many there are, you may begin to understand why passing the Phonics Screening Check does not guarantee that a child will be able to read and spell accurately.
So, what helps children use a restricted set of explicitly taught grapheme-phoneme correspondences as a kick-start and move into the self-teaching phase, where they begin working out the orthographic code for themselves?
This is what Dys-Code® Assessors are trained to understand and support.
